2026 Ballroom Summit

The 2026 Ballroom Summit brought together ballroom community members, public health professionals, advocates and organizational leaders for a day of education, dialogue and strategy-building during DC Black Pride. Created in collaboration with the Center for Black Equity, NMAC, Us Helping Us and Destination Tomorrow, the Summit connected ballroom culture, HIV prevention, mental health, harm reduction and civic power building. The resources below highlight the Summit’s reach, learning outcomes, health service impact and innovative Unity Ball model, where HIV education was embedded directly into ballroom competition.

The inaugural BE. Gala brought together celebration, visibility and purpose in support of the Center for Black Equity’s year-round work. The Immeasurable Impact: Black Pride's Transformational Effect on Black LGBTQ+ Communities (2025)
This report examines the transformational impact of Black Pride organizations beyond direct economic activity. Drawing on health, cultural, social and community outcomes, it highlights how Black Pride creates affirming spaces, expands access to life-saving services, supports leadership development, strengthens visibility and helps Black LGBTQ+ people experience belonging, dignity and joy. The report makes clear that Black Pride is not only a celebration. It is community infrastructure that supports health, safety, connection and long-term empowerment.

2024 Black Pride Leadership Summit: When We Gather, We Get Stronger

The 2024 Black Pride Leadership Summit brought together 54 Black Pride leaders representing 38 Pride organizations across 28 states and the UK. Held in Richmond, Virginia, the Summit created space for leadership development, mental health and self-care, civic engagement, resource sharing and regional collaboration. This collection highlights how the gathering strengthened the national Black Pride network, exceeded participation and satisfaction goals, and equipped organizers with tools, connections and support to sustain their work beyond the weekend.

2024 Black Pride Leadership Summit Evaluation
This evaluation report reviews the Center for Black Equity’s 2024 Black Pride Leadership Summit, which brought together Black Pride leaders from across the U.S. and the UK for leadership development, resource sharing and network building. Findings show that the Summit met its goals, strengthened regional connections and equipped organizers with tools to support Black Pride organizations and Black LGBTQ+ communities.

DC Black Pride 2023 ViiV Healthcare Initiative Evaluation
This evaluation report reviews the DC Black Pride 2023 ViiV Healthcare Initiative and its impact on programming, health access and attendee experience. The report highlights work focused on mental and sexual health, gender affirmation, harm reduction and social justice, along with on-site HIV/STI testing, prevention resources and wellness services. Findings show strong attendee satisfaction, with 97% of respondents reporting a positive overall experience and 100% of Health and Wellness Pavilion respondents reporting a positive experience.

Black LGBTQ Community Survey 2020/2021
This overview report shares findings from a national survey of 1,815 Black LGBTQ+ adults in the United States. The report explores identity, community connection, discrimination, political priorities, housing, finances, health, media use and outreach to Black LGBTQ communities. The findings offer useful data for organizations, advocates, companies and community leaders working to better understand the needs, experiences and priorities of Black LGBTQ+ people.

POWER 2015 Annual Report
This annual report shares findings from POWER, a community-based research initiative focused on HIV testing, health access and resilience among Black men who have sex with men and Black transgender women. Conducted at Black Pride events, the study used behavioral health surveys and HIV testing to better understand HIV prevalence, testing patterns, care access, social support and barriers to health. The report shows why Black Pride spaces are important not only for celebration, but also for reaching communities with research, prevention, care and public health strategies rooted in lived experience.

African American / Black LGBT Community Survey (2014)
This survey report shares findings from a national study of African American and Black LGBT adults in the United States. Conducted by Community Marketing & Insights in partnership with the Center for Black Equity and other community partners, the report explores identity, community connection, corporate outreach, media use, purchasing behavior, financial services, health concerns, political priorities and travel. The findings provide useful insight into the needs, experiences and priorities of Black LGBT people who engage with Black LGBT media, events and community organizations.
